Landscape Architecture | Department of Plant Science and Landscape Architecture

We offer an accredited, professional Bachelor of Science degree in Landscape Architecture (BSLA), as well as a Master of Science (MS), and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). We are a small program where the students and faculty form a strong, close-knit community. We are composed of approximately 60 undergraduate students, a small group of graduate students, and six faculty members. We design, research, teach, and do public outreach, imagining vibrant communities and creating places of value; while protecting and restoring our natural and cultural resources. We strive toward actionable and collaborative practices that address climate justice and social equity. If you are a spatial thinker and you love art and design and you love plants and horticulture, then this is the program for you. Learn more about us.

I find inspiration everywhere: pristine forests, meadows, and shores (1-4); anthropogenically altered places with emerging ecologies (5-7); cultivated landscapes that maintain traditional techniques (8, 9); and suburban yards that display care and sometimes humor (10).

Science 1 Research Center

@NationalASLA #WLAM2024 Day 18 & 19: Green Infrastructure and Design Solution. The Science 1 Research Center on UConn’s Storrs Campus, situated on nearly 15 acres of land, includes a unique series of bioretention gardens which expand over 800 linear feet. Taking advantage of the natural, sloping topography of the site, these vegetated swales collect, store, infiltrate, and clean over 8,600 cubic feet of rain water. This tiered system creates a waterfall effect after a rainstorm. The project received the @connecticut_asla Award of Excellence and stands as a benchmark for @uconn’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability. @nationalasla @uconn
