Bio

My primary role is to serve as the director of the University of Connecticut Plant Diagnostic Laboratory (UConn PDL). The UConn PDL provides plant disease diagnostic services, plant and pest identification, and management recommendations to stakeholders such as home gardeners, professional growers, landscape professionals, researchers, and anyone with an interest in plant health. The UConn PDL collaborates closely with the UConn Home & Garden Education Center (HGEC) and Soil Nutrient Analysis Laboratory (SNAL), as well as faculty in the departments of Plant Science & Landscape Architecture and Extension, to provide complimentary horticultural consultation, plant health seminars, educational resources in the form of fact sheets, articles, and blog posts, and professional training for UConn students, Master Gardeners and individuals receiving UConn-sponsored pesticide certification training. The UConn PDL is also a member lab of the National Plant Diagnostic Network, a consortium of diagnostic labs across the United States that work to promote US biosecurity interests and mitigate the introduction and spread of plant pests and pathogens that have the potential to cause significant damage to agriculture, the green industry, and natural settings. The UConn PDL is funded, in part, by the United States Department of Agriculture – National Institute of Food and Agriculture (USDA-NIFA) and the state of Connecticut. Efforts of the lab save Connecticut growers tens of thousands of dollars in saved time and resources each year by staying in operation.

Not accepting graduate students.
